Finally got around to installing a boost controller(manual) on my 1.9 golf w/gilles pump and 2.25 exhaust. when we hooked it up we were expecting to see a reading around 6-8 psi as the turbo ahs always seemed non existent but it was reading 12psi! Is it normal the w/this much psi you wouldn't notice the turbo let alone hear it? What is the engine capable of handling. head gastket new belts new etc etc. I was thinking as long as we kept it under 20psi we should be fine. advise and recomendations are very much appreciated/

Try taking the boot off the turbo then go for a drive, I'll bet you notice it then. Or the lack of it at least.
I don't hear mine until about 15 psi. I can hear it while idling if I'm standing behind it but that's it, till she's wound up nothing.
My K14 is quiet even with the 2.5" downpipe and exhaust. The only time I hear it is when I drive by something that will reflect the sound of the car (side of a building). I only run about 10psi. Like zuk said, try disconnecting something like the line from the manifold to the LDA and I'm sure you will notice the lack of boost. I tried it one day just goofing off and it reminded me of my pre-giles eco.
with stock dp and exhaust i can hear mine garett t3 spooling about as loud as the engine at only .... 5-8 psi? and wirring pleasantly at 10
when my t3 is idling i hear it whisping when i blip the throttle it lets is presents be known. Its is about as load as the engine.a tad quieter
I have a T3 on my car with stock exhaust and a cone filter. (Car came with no intake when I bought it). I could hear the turbo at 10psi. Now im running 30 and I can hear it spooling with getting on it. Still have to remove a few things from the exhaust.
I have a K-24, PP downpipe and 2.25" through to a high flow muffler.
I can hear the turbo at idle and striaght up to the 12psi when the waste gate opens.
