I just replaced my injector pump and feel the I do not have the timing right. I bought the timing belt tool kit from dieselvw. com which helps, but I don't know if I am using the dial indicator right. The dial indicator is in standard and the specifications are in metric, however I converted all the numbers properly.
I did get my engine to start, but it did not run very well. When I push the accelerator nothing really happens. The rpms don't go up, nothing happens. The cable is adjusted correctly, I can see it moving the lever on the injector pump.
I don't if anyone has any tips for me. Anything would be helpful.
Thank you.......
How long have you been running it for? If there is lots of air left in it it will run like that.
Check the FAQ for a post by Vince about pimping your glowplugs. On his site he has step by step timing
I ran the engine for about five minutes. I would think all the air bubbles would be out of the lines by then.

Yes most likely, unless you had an air leak allowing lots of air back into the system
