has anyone tried it?
is it better to do the block or the head?
im considering trying it, i know a machine shop that can do it at an apetizing price...
i dont want to do the head b/c i want to have the combustion chambers ceramic coated, i'd rather do just the block.
with the metal headgasket
30+ psi here i come
any imput?

hasn't he concluded that the head can't seal with only 4 bolts per cylinder being subjected to those pressures?
I believe that is in the end of that thread.

so it sealed no better than a metal gasket with studs i would guess?

The problem is not the factory head bolts or the steel multi layer gasket. The cyl head will actually flex between the headbolts causing combutsion leakage.

We would need an iron cyl head and have long studs that go through the head and block right down to the main bearing caps. This will take the stress off the block as the deck of the block would be the next weak link.

so at what pressures are we having problems with flex and combustion leakage?

You need high enough cylinder pressures for that, it´s not the boost. I´ve never had any kind of head gasket problems, but I had only 230hp/37psi/24+:1 compression.

Its really the High torque/cyl pressures that cause the issue. The longer stroke 1.9L can make much more torque and at lower rpm when compared to the 1.6 this is why the 2 engines have different results when they are modified.
