Hi, was wondering where you guys mount the EGT in the exhaust system? Is there somewhere to "screw it in" or does I have to make a hole myself?
Just want to know before I order one
I believe some peoploe put it in the turbo downpipe for ease but the best place to put it is in the exhaust manifold, so it will be a drill and tap jobbie. At least that was where i was going to fit mine which i have just ordered
Either that or i will weld on a nut onto the turbo dowpipe right on the bend :wink:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3915057has a good picture of what most consider to be the optimal spot for mounting the EGT sensor... on a flat spot in the middle of the manifold where it will see the heat from all four cylinders as uniformly as possible.
One thing is sure...because the turbo converts a variable amount of heat into energy mounting the sensor post-turbo (like on the downpipe) renders the gauge practically useless from a diagnostic point of view.
