The new style tensioner is supposed to slip into a slot on the rear timing cover. Then, you line up the slot on the pin and the slot on the inner and outer parts of the bearing. When you say your intermediate shaft is hard to turn: is that with the belt ON or with the belt OFF?If it' with the belt on, then that's about normal. If it's hard to turn with the belt OFF, then you have to inspect your intermediate shaft bearings, the oil pump, or your vacuum pump.
I havn't seen that style of tensioner ever. When you tension it up you'll see if its moving properly. So you intermediate shaft is hard to turn without the vac pump installed in the block,Correct?Has the block recieved new shaft bearings? Some bearing are made to where you need to ream them out after install for proper sizing and others can be installed without any further work.
So what is the purpose of the forks on the tensioner?
I've never seen a part like that either.
