more tach q's

i have a 87 golf n/a and mine has the w terminal on the alternator now can i just run a wire off that to a after market tach? or is there more to it? could you tell me what all i would need to hook up my tach? thanks dan

u could just run a wire to an after market diesel specific tach, you could buy a dakota digital converter which will allow you to run a gasser tach, or you could use our faq to convert a gasser tach so that all you have to do is run 1 wire, like the second and third options best, it just depends on how handy you are with soldering
