ok , i'm resealing a ve pump off a 1.6 turbo i have lying around , while i'm at it i thought i'd change the cam plate to a 1.9 idi .....

besides the cam plate what else do i have to change , and what should i consider changing when swaping to the higher lift cam plate .

and the bigger question , who has the needed parts for sale ?

One thing, make sure the 1.9 cam plate matches your plunger foot since the 1.9 had 2 different sizes. I don't know which the 1.6 had. Prothe sells them, though quality is unknown. Also others on the board may have used ones. I have the higher lift one, but if I sell it, which I haven't decided, it is going as a package deal with the 9mm head.

wen i did my pump got the camplate up the wrong way, it would work for *** :lol: make sure the pin lines up with the pully key

sorry to thread hijack but talking of pumps, what engine would run a 12mm pump piston or bigger?

i know its the wrong place to ask but can you run a AFN camplate in a 1Z?

That's odd as my pump had the pin opposite the key. Either way, make sure to see how it's aligned before you rebuild it.

12mm head ..... a 1st gen dodge with a cummins uses a 12mm head ( 6bt) , so i wonder if the 4bt engines that use a ve pump might have a 12mm head on them too ?

and for all the crying some people have done about prothe , right now he seems to be the only real alternative to the parts i'm looking for ......

where are all the guys with the " high quality " vw parts ?

btw the 10mm head prothe has , even thopugh it says it's a tdi replacement item, would i run into problems using it on a 1.6 idi engine ?

been thinking that maybe i should upgrade the head while things are apart .

Just drop him a e mail and ask, I don't think the pump heads are different I believe it's just the cam plates.

i couldn't tell you .....

i wish i had more than 1.6 and cummins ve pumps to play with .

The smaller foot looks like it's right at 2.9 cm across.

but the difference between them is so small that it can't be measured with a normal low-tech caliper (the ones in 1mm markings)

I read 0,3mm around here, I can confirm its a really, really small difference.

I'm thinking about grinding mine,have to find a way to fix it to a jaw without damaging or even scratching it.
paper, then a rubber pipe probably, and use only minimal grip.

I had one of Prothe's cams and my 10mm pump didn't fit, I took a piece of fuel line and cut it in a spiral and slid it over the plunger then put it in my cordless drill, fired up my die grinder and held the plunger to it with the drill spinning till the foot was the correct DIA.

Works fine for me..

also did that, but held the plunger with toilet paper by hand till it fit just like the 1.9. (I was afraid I might score the surface with the drill)

but mine still doesn't work, I got to have it properly timed.

offtopic: zukgod1 what injectors are you running? 1mm timing?
I already have two sets: GTD and old JR ones to play with.

Right now I'm running some of Prothe's Merc tipped 155 bar injectors.
I also have some VW bodies with some nozzles out of some CASE backhoe application. I have the injector shop do some research as to flow rates and they compared the VW TD tips to the Chev 6.5 tips and the Case tips.
I just found the paper last night and I don't remember the difference in cc's flowed at the moment but I can dig it out tonight and post up the #'s.
I do remember the VW and the Chev tips were the same cc's at a given pressure though.

Another thought on the poor running condition that can exsist, the sleeve that rides on the plunger has to be facing a certain way to work properly, can't remember at the moment what that is..

There is a really small hole in the face of it and it has to be facing a specific direction for it to idle I was told..

Anyone else know what I'm talking about.?
