do you trust cheap gauges to accurately tell you what you'd like to know?

i have done the boost pin and putting a bigger turbo (k24)
a ball park would be fine as im not doing any extensive tuning
not touching the fuel screw just pin and turbo so i think a cheap one with safice

i have added the 1.6TD pin and i have a K03 currently and with the pin even on a less steep side she smokes quite i bit as its pumping more fuel than the "small" K03 can match for air......
it only smokes on hard acceleration and not on regular driving so i didnt think i would need one but when changing to a slightly biggger turbo and adjusting the pin more my ETGs might go up and want to monitor them..
i have heard that just doing the pin and turbo makes the car way better and faster to drve "for a diesel"!

back off a bit on max fuel, or increase turbo pressure.
why would you want a bigger turbo on a daily driven car?
I have a K24 and it feels like a 1.6D until that big brute wakes up.
after driving a small garrett T2 intercooled golf I immediately bought a smaller turbo.
its what a turbodiesel should be, no lag, just power

I have a Glowshift EGT gauge, which for fairly inexpensive, seems fairly accurate according to someone else who tested theirs. It reacts fairly quickly as well.

Well i bought a "glowShift" EGT gauge today and cant wait for it to arrive as thats all im waiting for to do the swap also i was just going to cut the DP at where it curvers after the flex part and then hack the flange off and weld my new adapted one that mates to the turbo and then just buy a piece of pipe to join them in the middle? sound good?
anywways thanks for the advice on the EGT gauge Jimfoo i looks sweet and its 110.00 to the door and thats with the probe! you gotta watch alot dont come with that its extra!

+1 For Glowshift. Hope you didnt get the tinted one cause you wont be able to see it during the day.

haha i think i did but my boost gauge is tinted and i hooked it up so it used the accesory power from the cd player so when my ignition is on i have to power to it.
no problem seeing it when its lit up
you must have hooked yours up through your lights correct?

Nope, you can't see them as the tinting is too dark compared to the light's brightness unless you have tinted windows. Sunlight makes it impossible to see. I forgot to mention this as I also fell victim. I ended up making a new "lens" out of a piece of CD case.

I bought a digital one from 'auber instruments' for $35 and a k type thermocouple for $6.
