Off-the-shelf options for AAZ downpipes ??
« on: April 30, 2008, 03:06:51 pm »
My current stock exhaust is hanging by a thread.... great 'cause I want to rip it out and go 2.5", but I'm kinda stymied on the downpipe.

With Dave no longer in the downpipe business and my welding skills not quite ready to tackle putting a bunch of mandrel-bent pipe segments together,  has anyone found any other alternatives to bigger downpipes for AAZs   Evidently none of my local muffler shops can handle the downpipe side either.

Someone mentioned TT sells something, but I haven't been able to find it.  I'm assuming it has to be AAZ-specific as well, since the 1.9 block is slightly taller than the 1.6 ??

Suggestions welcomed... thanks !

See my post a couple down....

It wasnt that hard to make...not as hard as I expected. I used 2" wide electrical tape to hold the sections together while I was test fitting. You could always make alignment marks and tape it up and take it to a welding shop (muffler shops are retarded...ive completely given up on them).

Yeah I saw that and it almost tipped me over the edge to try it for myself.... nice work.   If I had an old downpipe as a template I might be a little more courageous.

Do you recall exactly what bends you ordered ??  Make the turbo flange yourself ?

Yeah, that would be the "Dave who is no longer in the downpipe business".... sigh-of-envy.

And thank you *so* much for bringing up such a painful subject.  While you're at it why dontcha just give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it.

Dave is still making downpipes, he's just not making 2.5".  You can get a 3" stainless made, just give him a call.  I think he's busy these days.

I just plasma cut the flanges to fit my 2.5" turbo back.  Fitting it doesn't look bad, but definitely takes some work to get it welded properly.  We've got a TIG welder at work, so that makes it easier.  I'll post some pics when it together.
