water pump replacement?
« on: March 31, 2008, 01:59:15 pm »
Ive replaced the water pump on my "sig" and like a dummy i threw the old one out.Now im putting on belts and i notice that my waterpump pulley sticks out a pinch more then the crank pulley?I know theres two different styles of hubs, but mine pulley fits, but it seems like it comes out to far.I compared the old to new and they looked the same,i need help.I could shimm the back with some washers but in dont wanna :?

VW has at least 5 different styles of water pump pulley configurations for their 8V engines.

Ive tried flipping it,Its alot further out of line with the crank when i do it.I have it "hugging" the lower belt cover.I did eliminate the A/C!Is this the reason?

If your alternator still lines up with the crank then it's not the issue (as far as deleting the AC goes) because you didn't change the crank pulley (I think there are only 2 styles of crank pulleys anyways)

If the pulley is sticking out too far, shims will only put it out there farther.
What is the last letter in the part number?
If you set the pully face down, with the center on a flat surface, how far is the center of the groove where the belt rides from the surface?

Thanks for posting this in the troubleshooting fora,.. instead of the IDI performance enhancements fora.

sorry i meant the crank pulley sticks out a little further  I will look at the offset today. Its gotta be"belt center" close to a 1/4" inch from the hub(offset).Your talking about how far its "cupped" out, right?

That's weird that you have AC and no PS.

So you deleted the AC but kept the same alternator or you bought the correct alternator?

Either way you don't need a double pulley
