pump different from FAQ pic?
« on: March 31, 2008, 02:30:33 am »
Was just trying out the fuelling mods on the FAQ section and got bogged down from the beginning... the picture below shows the throttle position sensor / limit switch... and in the FAQ section it states "This modification makes it possible turbo to function full-time instead of compressing only when you ask for all the power"

In my engine, the Limit switch is not connected to anything, and no idea as to where the other end of the terminal is and what effect it does make in order to make the turbo work harder or all the time...

Also, in the FAQ it states that there is a pump delay timing soleniod... I seem to be missing that as well!  (see pic) Does that mean that my pump is not tuneable and need to source another pump?

Thanks

Just make sure you have no solenoid valve looking things in the boost lines between anything(turbo/actuator, intake/aneroid) A lot of pumps just have a cover over the timing piston, not a solenoid. The solenoid was just there for emissions and has nothing to do with performance mods. Your pump is fine.

Nah... you're fine... carry on !!

There were several variations of the pump configuration during the production run... parts put on in advance of them being needed and parts left on after they were no longer needed.

Your current pump has a little less emission control stuff than the one in the FAQ so less to worry about actually... the "meat" of the tuning instructions is still very relevant.

Your pump is missing the adjustable spring on the top of the LDA (the dome at the top of the pump where the boost pressure is fed back to the pump via the black cloth hose) so you can ignore the instructions about tuning that spring.

In fact, without the advance solenoid in your way you're free to easily experiment with different advance springs and shims if you wish... search for a thread called "advance spring mod".

Thanks for taking a few worries off my mind, at least now i know that i can keep the pump :) didn't feel like replacing it after a week of fiddling to fit the engine.

In order of most marked effect, which pump mods should I do first to it then?
