I went over to my friend's house this weekend and helped him with his ford. It has a 460ci in his truck  but the thing that I noticed was that it had probably 3" rubber hoses going from the filter box to the injection manifold. After screwing in a light bulb  I thought "I could have used some of those from a bone yard 460 engine in my intake setup instead of all of that PVC. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't just done it though....maybe you all could learn from that. I bet all you would need is 2 45 street elbows and the hoses from a MPI 460. I am kicking myself as it wouldn't have taken half as long to do
not to make this the neverending thread, but I will post pics later of the new 45 elbow that replaced the 90.

BTW I didn't have it screwed together today and it came apart...when it did I knew it immediately. The Ram Air effect means TONS. It came apart at the 45 right in front of the IP so you wouldn't think that it would have been getting hot air. I hooked it up and huge difference again. If you're thinking about doing this go ahead, best mod I have done for the NA 1.6L.
The ram air thing really does help at highway speed (50-60). I blocked off the down duct (under the rear intake grille) to turn my rear air scoop into a ram air intake on the left side of my Vanagon. Straight in no wind, it helps. crosswind from the right, slower. crosswind from the left, noticeably faster!
what about a snorkel device? Could this perhaps increase intake? Can a diesel ever get too much air?
Thanks for posting again on this. I was going to but didn't want to take up the room on the forum all by myself. Anyhow I probably couldn't go back to the way it used to be. It IS QUIETER and the freeway speeds are now attainable easily. I went to a K&N filter but other than that nothing changed since the last post. I probably have put 1,500 miles or more on it, and I am getting 3-4 MPG more with it over the old box. My brother called me and he could hear me when I was going 72MPH down the road and not only hear me but he said he didn't even know I was driving. His exact words were "youre driving? Your Volkswagen? I can't even hear anything but wind." My window seals leak real bad so that is what he heard. After the mileage that I have driven I now see no negatives.
You should try this:D
better airflow is always better.
Continued good results? I'm thinking of maybe picking up a 1.6na
LUCAS! Omfg bromosexual. this looks amazing! I am going to try this for sure! I'll try and locate a wrecked 460 first
sweeeet man.
"edit" ps. I love 2 year old thread bumps lol
Yeah I have since sold that fly hoopty*don't even know if that is correct slang* LOL
That intake was flipping sweet. All the noise was up in front by the rad. In the car was nice and quiet, except for the 2.5 or 2.25 exhaust from the bowl back, with a cherry bomb. It was almost like a turbo with the ram air effect. I would say like driving with 4 lbs boost or so.
Since I am cheap it was also cool as I had less than 20 dollars in it.
Yes, the 2 year old thread bump and it is still relavent
i heard he died is that true? From aids? Either way that guy was hilarious. Real easy talker laid back. The happy little tree next to his friendly little stream.
He died of lymphoma in '95. His voice makes me sleepy. I used to love watching him and then subsequently napping on summer afternoons.
