Do any of you time your engines with a timing light? if so, what do you set it at?

what are you using to get a reading for your timing light ?

i've got a snap on adapter that clamps onto the no 1 injector line .

on the mitsubishi diesel i had , 5 degree's after tdc is where it liked to live . that is the starting point ill be using myself , unless the stock timing  is radically different .

haven't messed with the timing on my vw yet .  can you even easily see the timing marks on the flywheel ?
1990 jetta , tweaked pump , tweaked turbo , ported head  2.5inch exhaust .

1993 dodge w250 , diesel ... removing the dead moose parts .

I ordered a pickup for a tiny tach which I will adapt to my gas timing light. I will time it off the TDC mark I made on the crank pulley.

I think Andrew (libbybapa) has a professional uint for IDI timing. He might lend some insights on how to for your TDI-(M?).
