Is there a longer clear fuel line?
« on: March 09, 2008, 01:32:40 pm »
Hello,

I have a '79 Rabbit, that I converted to a 1.6TD about 7 months ago, and have been loving. However, I'm redoing the engine bay now, and would like to relocate the fuel filter to the back side of the strut tower.

Here's a pic of my engine bay and an arrow to help explain...

So basically, I need a clear line that's about 6-10" longer so I can bolt it to the back of the strut tower instead of the front, and still have the slack needed.

Thanks all,
Erik

The stock line with the fitted ends is still available. Here is the part number:

068 130 309

Maybe you can buy two and mate them together?

i put a fuel pump where your filter is right now , then i relocated the filter a few inches towards the motor , and down, below the intake hose .

you shouldn't need new hoses to do that .

I could have swore I saw a picture recently of a mk1 that had the filter right where I want to move it to, but with a stock looking line, but I can't seem to find it...

My 81 Caddy has it about halfway to where you want yours. There's quite a bit of slack left - you could probably squeak a bit more rotation out of the filter location.

Mine was in the same spot as yours originally, but I had to relocate it forward when I swapped in the TD, you can still see the factory mounting studs where it was. It didn't have enough slack to make it to the back of the strut tower.

I'll have to check on the the 83-84 TD line. Does anyone have a part number for that, btw?

I got my hose at napa and it's just like what came on my rabbit. I just wanted new hose and the stuff they had was perfect and has been fine for the two years I've used it.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

NAPA has the clear line? I hope so, that'd be convenient. :D

Get polyurethane, not pvc (vinyl). pvc wont take the heat and the urethane is much more abrasion resistant.
