oil feed tube broken!!

Anyone here had their turbo oil feed tube break? Mine did, and it pumped all the oil out. I noticed it before the oil light or the oil pressure gauge dropped. Seems to run okay still. Looks like a ten minute job to replace. But, has anyone repaired with neoprene line, instead of the steel? I was thinking that this might be better for the vibration factor. Or does anyone have a good source to find a new tube, or used?

You could do a patch job with neoprene, but I wouldn't want to leave it that way. IF the fittings are teh same, there's lots of turbo feed lines on cummins engines made from braided steel that would work well AND look great. The other possibility (besides the dealership) is regular hydraulic hose made to order IF you can match the fittings. Good luck! let us know what you come up with. I've got one I dread the thought of taking off, loos like it will give me trouble when I do!

avoid the dealership at all costs.  Those tubes are expensive.

I just priced out a tube at the dealer, they want $60. I think that is reasonable. They used to be near $200! I got a used one for $10 8) , but I think I'm gonna get a new one and save the used one for a spare.  :)

Make sure to install it using those Adel-style rubber-cushioned support clamps, so it doesn't vibrate and flex too much (which I'm guessing is what caused yours to crack?)

Although more supports would be better, on my 1.6lTD I have done away with the support near the intake manifold "El", and am just relying on the support near the water neck on the side of the cylinder head.  (Reason I did away with the intake manifold oilline support is I routed a boost tube in that area.)

Jake... Do you mean clamps like this?



Where is the hose normally supported?  Mine was disconnected when I got my motor...

Yes exactly.  In a factory 1.6lTD there are 2 adel-style clamps holding the turbo oil supply tube: one bolts to the top fastener that holds the water neck to the transmission-end of the cylinder head.  The other bolts to a heat shield near the "El" that's on top of the intake manifold.

No wonder I didn't recognize those clamps for that pipe.  I didn't get that one with the engine.  I guess I'll add that to the "wish" list.  I was thinking of  the drain pipe that's on the backside of the motor...the one that essentially looks like two metal pipes with a metal braided section in the middle.

I had a leak at the connection that I couldn't stop, got my new line at the dealer, I think I paid $30, anyway the leak stopped and it is a nice tight fit. Then I find out that a local truck repair shop makes custom hoses and tubing and could have made mine.  So look around and check out all the heavy truck repair shops as well as any farm equipment shops, possibly John Deere and such.  

Oh those clamp are great and I use them all the time on other things as well. :D

When I did my TDI swap into a T3 I used all sorts of parts, there was no way any standard part was going to work.
I've used copper pipe and compression fittings (Yorkshire fittings) and it's been fine for 2 years, saying that now it's going to break isn't it!
I do have a small pipe bender so all the angles were nice, just doing a AAZ into a T for a customer so I'll be doing the same again as the supplied ones are a bit thin looking, bit crispy!
