Turbo flange gasket

WHat kind of gasket is supposed to be between the exhaust manifold and turbo?  THis is for a 1.6TD with Garrett T3.  I never saw one, and havent seen any for sale anywhere.

Ive heard you dont need one.I may be wrong
Cummins 4bta- 85 dodge prospector short bed
28 mpg!!and i can pull down a house!
1.6td in toyota pickup
10mm head ,t3 intercooled.

Perfectly flat on both surfaces, you should be good to go.

yup,stuff is awesome!! i swear by it,not at it :lol:
also if ya wanted,ive done this on my latest turbo setup
hit your local metal supplier and get a little scrap sheet of .060(approx)
copper
i gave the guy like 3 dollars for it
then i traced and cut with a dremel
i made 2 gaskets,1 between the manifold and adapter
and 1 between the adapter+turbo

i dont use gaskets becouse most of the cars i see its original without.

i ever go to an Audi garage wich do had this original equiped, after i asked it they searched for it, and told me they dont use it anymore becouse without is also good enough

I dont' see any gasket listed in the ETKA for either the MK 1 or 2. I don't think VW ever had one.

You might try prothe. In a similar manner, no gasket was specified for the MK 3 TDI, but I see he carries a gasket that works.

i'm getting an exhaust leak from somewhere... i'm not too eager to find out where, but it feels like i have a laggy turbo :(  i would recommend using a gasket unless you machine both surfaces real nice and flat... but even then stuff can happen.  if you lose that precious exhaust gas to a leak, you will lose performance, and the inside of your car will be smelly  :lol:

I noticed, right before I put my turbo on the manifold, that the manifold flange was not flat....at all.  I put a machinists straight edge on it and (without using feeler gauges) I would guess it was about 10 thousandths warped.  I filed it till it was perfectly flat again so It would make a good seal with the turbo.  Then I used a very small amount of ultra copper, like someone mentioned and the turbo sealed up perfect.  

So if you have a leak, I would start to check here.  Ten thousandths is enough for a leak.
