It was about 82 today on nokomis key in south western florida.
HA! I didn't read that part at first but, I looked at those pictures and said to myself. "Hey!! That is North Jetty Beach on Casey Key in Nokomis!!!"
There is no mistaking it.
That is one of my favorite beaches, I have spent a ton of time there having grown up in Venice / Nokomis (well from 8-20). Nothing better than those Australian Pines for beating the afternoon heat at the height of summer. Later on in High School North Jetty also turned out to be an excellent "Parking" spot.
If you can believe it, at one point the gulf came right up to the trees and there were many rope swings.
Things were allot different 20-30 years ago, Casey Key was considered low brow, "The Poor Mans Water Front" nothing more than tiny cottages and beach shanties along most of it. That is all changed now, they all have been replaced with great big McMansions that are built like tenements, long and thin so they can fit on the beach front lots usually taking up most of of the lot.
More often than not at North Jetty Beach the bikers used to out number the beach goers. I don't know if it's still there but, there used to be a ramshackle bar / bait shack in the back corner of the parking lot along the edge of the opening of the intercoastal, beyond the bait bar in the middle of the channel is "Snake Island". The Island was the summer vacation domain of most of the neighborhood boys, ala "Lord of The Flies" we virtually lived there. At home we were mere boys but, upon swimming the channel to Snake Island, we became Kings!!!

. Unless they a boat, we were completely inaccessible to parents, they could only stand on the banks and yell over.
Anyway...
Enjoy the beach, the sun, and the relaxation. I'll wave as I drive to work today. You aren't more than than 30-40 minutes North of me currently.
Hard to believe that I am a mere 10 days from giving up Florida Sunshine, 80F February days, and white sandy beaches for Boston. It's been over 20 years since I spent a day at North Jetty, maybe I should take my daughters before we go, won't be the same without bikers though...
