I've got the serpentine belt setup from a 1.9 td on my 1.6td
It has a vbelt for the water pump & power steering
If the power steering pump is removed, how do you tighted the vbelt?
Did any mk3 come from the factory without p.s.?
thanks

i suppose you would need to find a car without P/S. or just install a junk p/s pump?

i think a junk ps pump would seize without the ps oil going thru it.

Take a PS pump, fill it with fluid and just make a loop. Not very efficient but it'll work.
I'll see about getting you a PN for that pulley

Burn
yes please , if you can. the part number would be great. There is a great vw junkyard in Pennsylvania with Canada 1.9 diesels, they got me the serp setup, but he can't find that water pump pulley for me.
Is there a belt specific to a car with no PS but WITH AC ?
Did those cars have AC? Your picture in the faq shows the water pump powered by the serp, but the AC is missing.

That is a factory non ac model. I don't know much about AAZs but I would imagine it needs a different belt. I'm not sure but the AC ones might drive the WP with the v-belt, I'll check though as I have 3 of these engines kicking around

Thanks Verminaard !
that's very cool, but I have to keep the AC.
(north new jersey summers, humid 100 deg & 45 minute commute)
That kit uses a 1.9TD crank pulley and obd-1 vr6 water pump pulley
if that water pump pulley doesn't interfere with the ac pulley, thats what I'll use.
He sells a 1.9TD crank pulley for $75 which seems like a really good price.
I thought they were over $200 ??

The vr6 water pump pulley fits.
It looks a little off center, the belt riding a bit closer to the outside edge, but looks like it'll work.

Use a junk power steering pump as an idler pulley to tighten the belt.
Take a power steering pump, open it up, REMOVE the vanes, reassemble.
Fill with power steering fluid (don't forget to plug the holes) reinstall.
Pretty much the same answer as run a junk power steering pump in a loop, but without the loop.

Flapjack did you ever get the serp system to work with a/c and driving waterpump? I just put bracket and parts on my 1.9 and looks like the serp belt won't even touch water pump pulley when a/c is installed. I was hoping to retain a/c but drive h20 pump off serp if possible any suggestions?

I don't see a way to keep AC and run the water pump with the serp
I think I may put the @#$-ing power steering back on and run the v belt for the water and power steering as the good Lord intended.
At the moment I've got a serpentine belt running the water pump but going backwards over the AC. It'll do until I actually finish getting the rest of the car together and actually starting it. For some reason I can't finish this job
