Injector pump longevity
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:27:51 pm »
Hey I was just wondering about how long one can expect an injector pump to last on one of these engines?

I've owned several diesel 1980's VW's.  Both turbo and N/A but have never had a pump problem yet.  (knock wood).

I was just wondering about other people's experiences and how long they have lasted for you?

the switch to ULSD & biodiesel will eventually lead to pump leakage if the pump was never re-sealed.  pumps after '96-ish should have the correct seals to accomodate the new fuels.

the pump should last nearly forever if you change your fuel filter every 6 months or at least a year.  but that doesn't mean the pump won't run like crap after a while...  if the feed pump gets worn out, you can always use a lift pump to squeeze extra miles from it.

Where can someone get a pump resealed?

Can you do it yourself? How?
