Anybody still making those flanges? Mine is leaking too.

It's probably the o-ring that is leaking... if VW doesn't have them a hardware store likely will.

Where do you get your attachment to the block from Andrew? Early 1.5s? and 1.6s?
I have just taken the block off plate, drilled it, tapped it for pipe thread and installed a pipe to barb fitting. The 1.6 oil separator has only 1 input and so it is a good idea to either use one of the later ones or install a tee to allow the block vent to enter prior to the oil separator. This is easily accomplished on the vanagon (tilted 50°) by moving the separator on top of the block fitting with the tee up to the valve cover. It would be a little more challenging on the golf/jetta. On those, easier would be to get a later model separator.

So, there's the same opening on a 1.6? And is it blocked off by a steel plate
Yes, flat steel plate next to the oil filter flange held on by two allens.
Please excuse myignorance, but is it the same on the 1.9 AAZ as the 1.6???
Would anyone have an accurate drawing of the plate so I can make one
Anyone at all
Follow the first link on the first page. There is a drawing.

Yeah, I know, but it just gives me a pic the size of a postage stamp.

Yes,The plate from the 1.6 will fit on the 1.9 AAZ,1Z or AHU.
Can't you just use a block off plate like the 1.6td has?
The added block vent is a very good upgrade to the 1.6. It allows the flow of vapors from the block without fighting against the flow of oil back to the pan from the head. The block vent will reduce the amount of oil mist into the intake. I add the block vent to the 1.6s that I run. I personally wouldn't disable the improvement on the later motors although one could.

Thanks, that's something I'll look into upgrading next summer.

the shape is simple, its a flat piece. if you cant find one, find a rabbit petrol (carbie car)fuel pump, its goes in the same hole, cos it runs off a cam on he intermediate shaft. it wouldn't be hard to measure the centres of the holes with some verniers then just sketch out a rough shape to cover the hole, it shouldnt be too hard.
the bolts are probably M6...
