Well it's mainly cause the law in Malta isn't very well enforced. Most of us aren't disciplined and don't really run into the law so we can drive how the way we want, but we are such a small country with so many cars that crashes happen all the time. Mainly due to speeding....the women here mainly do the stupid crashes. Thats why insurance is so expensive, and the younger you are the more expensive it is. For example, a Toyota Glanza, you can't even be insured for unless you are atleast 25 years old.
Anyway, 6000 Euros cause thats the average value of a VW Golf Mk3 1993 Model. The import + registration fees kind of effect all prices of cars in Malta. If it were finally removed, then the price of cars would drop radically, but the government hasn't mentioned removing it, but the people who represent Malta in Brussles at the EU thing, are trying to get the EU to force it on the government to remove the tax, cause they've already been told to remove it for EU cars.
But I want to know if it's a car worth getting, cause it's either that or a Toyota startlet, and I noticed you guys seem to be pros on VW cars, so I thought it would be best to ask here.
