Can I force more air into a NA?

Just wondering if anyone has bolted on an electric supercharger on a NA motor or has tried other means of forced induction for their naturally aspirated powerplant? I dont need to run it full time, just need a little more power for the hills. What do you guys think?

Electric supercharger? Um hello?

I'm not going to bash ya everyone has wondered about those things.
They just dont work plain and simple.
If you want more air either build a ram air from your grill or cowl or just step up and get a turbo.

If you buy an "electric super charger" make sure you also get chrome fuel and oil caps and keep them polished that adds 10 HP also. :wink:


You could also bolt a turbo onto it and go without an LDA like an EcoDiesel, more air but not more fuel. I would think in that case adding a turbo to an NA engine without the oil squirters wouldn't actually hurt anything. Without the extra fuel exhaust temps an engine stresses would be nil, I would guess.

That would be the right way to do it.

Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it. I would rather ask a dumb question then to spend a lot of money on something that doesn’t work. I was doubting the effectiveness of a vacuum cleaner motor used to assist air flow… that is why I ran it passed the experts. As for the chrome, I think a G60 valve cover might actually help if you might have one to donate

my G60 valve cover is full polished and it helps alot! I can't balieve the difference! get yours polished (burn your money) and feel the power!

lol you guys... i know its hard to resist knocking electric superchargers... but why not help this dude out with some useful info?  check out jake's variable vane thread.  he basically put a VNT-15 turbo onto his dad's rabbit 1.6 N/A.  it then became quite zoomy and spiked the gauge (and blew a boost tube)

just run with the vanes open all day long, and have an ajuster cable somewhere under the dash.  close the vanes and enjoy the hill climbing power

Once you force air into an N/A, doesn't it stop being a Naturally Aspirated engine?

Ive put a roots on a toyota corolla diesel, useless waste of money - firstly you need a crank pulley so big its funny, because the SC pulley is magnetic, next you need at least 12000 revs of the SC to get a paltry 15 psi boost.

my experience is junk - maybe some other SC would be good, I put up an IHI VF10- on it and an LDA pump, best thing for the wheezing 2C diesel.

Thanks jtanguay for the link. That was some good reading. I would like a VNT for the Caddy. I think I will go the route Ziptar suggests and bolt a K03 that’s been laying in the garage and make myself an econo-ride. I was just looking for an easy fix, but I guess if the electric SC was worth a damn, Vw would have done it that way in the first place. Thanks again for the input.
