My main rad fan now runs all the time as soon as the ignition is turned on. I am going assume it is the water temp sensor, which I am ordering today. Does this sound right?

That or a stuck relay.

Does this vehical have AC? If it does, things get a little more messy.

Pull the conecter off the temp senser, the one on the radiater, does the fan shut off? If so, then yes that seser is bad. If not, relay is most likely.

do you have the climate control system set to defrost defog? if you do, and have a/c, the fan will run always, but at the lower a/c setting.

Thanks for the replies. It does have AC, altho, has not worked since warranty ran out (so I am told). This problem only started a few days ago (after I gave the engine a bath, but not right after).

I disconnected the temp sensor, still runs. Pulled the relay, stops running (of course), but tested relay, and is open under no power, so it should be fine. Is there anything else that contols the fan? I looked at the connector to the fan, and looking rough, but no obvious problems. Played around with wires in engine bay, and nothing had an effect.

Any other ideas? Thanks,

Is this possibly my problem

The Aux Fan Control Unit, located in the engine bay, which I recently bathed! Is this the "relay" that controls the rad fan?

well do you have climate control, just not automatic climate control. regardless, do you have it set to defrost? maybe you don't realize that a/c is turned on when you select defrost, and that the fan turns on when a/c is turned on... now do you understand?

i highly doubt washing a relay will make it turn on, unless you somehow sprayed some sort of conductive material between two contacts... which would seem to be very unlikely. there could possibly be a contact while it is still wet under the hood, but that should have dried by now.

i can almost guarantee 99% that if you just disconnect the wire going to the resistor (round cylindrical black thing attached to the fan shroud) then the fan will stop coming on.

This is the culprit. One of the temp sensors, sits on top of the water distribution manifold right before it goes into the head. As soon as I disconnect it, fan stops running. Occasionally it does not do it, but usually starts up in a few seconds after the ignition comes on.

yea you pretty much solved your own problem.

the fan system on these cars is quite intricate, and everything is interconnected. simply disconnecting one power source doesn't necessarily mean that it is the culprit, but i hope this fixes your problem.
