1.6/1.9 interchangeability
« on: March 06, 2005, 02:47:58 pm »
Is it possible to put a 1.9 crank in a 1.6? that would give about 107 ci's and 1800 cc's. Also longer stroke promotes better tourqe at lower rpms.

What about rods and pistons? The 1.6 pistons would protrude from the block a tad more than usual with the 1.9 crank (in other words it won't work). The 1.9 has a taller deck height and longer rods with a higher pin height on the pistons from everything I've heard.

If you were to increase a 1.6 to a 1.8 giving it a longer stroke, then the pistons would have to protrude way too far above the block.  The piston-to-valve clearances in these engines are pretty tight.  I can't imagine that it would work.

Lots of companies make pistons and/or piston/rod combinations to do this with chevy (400 crank in a 350 block, bored 30 over gives 383). Maybe someone does the same for this combo?

I'm sorry i should have said it differently. I didn't figure the factory pistons would work but are the crank specs the same?
