did your mileage improve w/ veggie oil? So veggie oil is corrosive to fuel lines? I've though of running veggie oil in my rabbit but here in alaska it wouldn't make much sense 'cause 7-8 months out of the year it's to cold for veggie oil.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

my mileage stayed the same, dont know about veg being corrosive, I ran my system all winter as low as 5deg f any lower I chose not to. During the lower temps I just had to warm up longer I used modified heated filters at 10 micron wix 33125 they last me 1500 mile each.

i know someone running on veg with absolutely no problems (about 10'000km's so far or more now..)

if you want to try and risk it, just make sure to have the veg pre-heated before entering the engine.  if not, you'll surely need to replace the pump down the line.

I have a heated tank , a spin on 10 micron filter with a heater built on it , a racor 28 micron with a heater under it , 1/2 in copper line brazed full length to a 1/2 inch copper line with engine coolant  from the trunk up to the engine via the interior to concerve heat in the winter. I run a pusher fuel pump right out of the veg tank. I start my veg burn at 160 deg f . I  also have full fuel return lines and an "h" bypass with the return set at  a bleed to circulate veg to get the stagnete oil warm while running the inital diesel . works well

I haven't tried veg. oil but I did a fair bit of reading back then and it seems safe for VE TDI (risker in a PD TDI). Like others have mentioned, the veg. oil must be heated to lower its viscosity prior to entering the fuel injection system. Last I checked, www.frybrid.com is one of the top-notch veg. oil kits and their diagrams/forum contain useful info that may help DIY guys optimize their homemade kit.

I would run a well-filtered, well-heated, and well-purged kit in a VE TDI without worrying much. I'm not going to even bother trying it in my new PD TDI though.
