What is the best turbo setup?
« on: September 22, 2007, 08:17:15 pm »
I'd like to start sourcing my build.  I don't want a new tdi engine, but I want decent power out of my rabbit.  Definately want a turbo.  :D   What is the ideal setup.  Want something reliable, not too extreme.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks.  :D

I think some here would say a VNT15 would be ideal. The problem is you need to do some fabrication or modification becuase the downpipe from the 1.6's doesn't work with the VNT flange and the turbo would be upside down so you need to plumb some more tubing to get to the intake manifold. You also need to construct some type of vane actuator system.

Currently my rabbit has a NA 1.6.  I want to make it a TD and want to begin searching for the parts.  I've read that I should start off with a TD engine because they have piston squirters.  So I know I'll need that.  Then I figure a 1.9 is better (more displacement  :D ).  Then from there I'm up in the air.  I want to start off using my 4spd tranny to save a little money.  Eventually I'll switch to a 5 spd.

The links to those articles were very good.  Thanks for the info.  Every piece of knowledge helps me out.  Thanks!
