Anyone know where it's supposed to attach? My best guess so far is to add a tiedown spot to one of the existing seatbelt bolts...........
I have an 86 Golf and was looking for the same thing. My local VW dealer was no help at first and eventually told me no parts were available. There is supposed to be a bar that runs between the top rear of the rear shock towers. Check your local wrecking yard. I found lots of early 90's Golfs with these. I saw a couple of different mounting styles, some are easier to remove for loading your car down than others. Your car should have the mounting brackets already welded in place, if not you'll have to fab some up or remove some from your donor car.
Also, does your car have rear shoulder belts? If not, you'll eventually want them when the time comes to put your little one in a booster seat. Might be easier to do all this at the same time if needed. I posted a little info in Upgrades about how I did the shoulder belt deal.
Thanks, clbanman. The car already has the shoulder belts, maybe because it's a later model? Junior is old enough for that route, but not heavy enough yet. That bar wouldn't be the one that's in the panel that hides what's in teh back, would it? there's one there, but it doesn't look nearly heavy enough. I have to go look at a car sometime soon for a headliner, maybe it's got this part too...........
No. It's a separate bar, about 1" square with three mounting tabs so you can locate the seat (or three). The mounting setups I have seen were bolt on with one that had bolt on brackets with pins for quick removal.
Went to the local wrecker today (Dover auto wreckers), found nothing in mark2 cars, but found three like you describe in mk 3 cars. Took one home, mounted it. Not an exact fit, but very solid. Had to shorten the bar and drill new holes at the end. Took some off both ends to keep it centred. Wrecker wouldn't even take any money from me since I took it out myself. Thanks!!
