Importing from outide the EU into UK results in duty being paid for anything over £7 ($15) or £18 ($35) for gifts. There is a system for relief for exporting and reimporting for repairs. Improvements are not allowed. Declared prices over the above values incur VAT etc on the bloody postage as well (excuse my French). Read link below to boost your IQ or blow a gasket which ever comes first
http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/...Oh yea forget 2nd hand being free of VAT too. I threw a wobbly when I was charged for 20 yr old Quantum(Passat) A/C setup. B'stards
I occasionally exchange parts with EU and I still can't believe the VAT gouging that you guys get.. I always declare $20-30 USD (or CAD) when doing exports.

To be fair what with cost cutting etc reducing staffing levels;
HMS Customs only pick a sample out....
So "If yer feeling lucky punk..."
Im 99% sure Simon from central VW doesn't build his own pumps,or he didn't a few years ago, he shipped them out to a guy called "Mick" just over the hill from me.
I have 4 Quantum Estates; 3 are TD's but one I'm driving at the mo is a 1.6 petrol... 38mpg best; 28 round town  I want to drop a diesel in but a casual remark to the insurance co about dropping a diesel in if this\engine failed brought a comment... "We only allow alloy wheels as a mod!" I'm scrapping one of the diesel estates and so I'm tempted to alter a few numbers '3' actually if there's no other way. What's insurance like on this up north?
Mine's about £200/year fully comp with mods to interior & wheels declared, including full breakdown cover. I park on the street btw, so that seems pretty good to me.
I'd have a word with
Footman James as they seem to
get older & classic cars.
I'd love to get a Giles pump or other upgraded fuel pump for my GTD, but can't justify the outlay at the moment.
Good luck,
Tom
Footman james is 2 mins from my house, they are good to insure with.
Bert
I've had dealing with this company thro' work
http://www.patkins.com/they're very good with diesels
had a chat with him awhile ago and he said modding a pump shouldn't be a problem...
if i gave him a spec sheet for the mod (which you can get off here)
he would do one for me, i didn't follow up on this as cash is lacking at the mo'
just a note about them ...
they've do the mods on the M.A.N. TGA truck racing teams vehilces
we (imperials commercials) use them alot for troublesome f.i.p. and injection vehilces, and havn't had a bad job done by them...
