thing is, lordco didnt have 15W-40, so thats why i got 10W-30 again.
The only time I have ever run 10-30 is when it was -20, and even then I changed to 15-40 before going on a roadtrip.
Am I way off, or is 10-30 WAY too thin for summer driving?
alright, so what brand of oil is the best for a 1.6 TD? and ill be sure to get 15W-40
Rotella T 15w40 diesel motor oil is the best non-synthetic oil to buy. Amsoil makes a great synthetic motor oil for diesel/gas engines.
I'm currently in the process of ordering some oil off
http://www.oilextreme.com and going to be testing it out on my vehicle soon.
as far as i know about oil....
5w, 10w, 15w etc... those are winter rating...so, there are 5w40, 5w50, 10w40, 10w30 etc.... 5w50 is the best of both world - summer and winter. meaning 5w will flow really nice in the winter and 50 will not burn off in the summer, it's all about the turbo shaft.
synthetic is man made oil... best for the winter, but not needed is some places in the world! the function of oil is to provide "hydro-dynamic suspension" for metal parts. meaning preventing metal to metal contact (fluid is not compressible, only is extreme pressure - for every 2000 psi oil will compress one hair line). since your oil pressure does not see anywhere close to 2000 psi, no need to worry. what is harmful is the debris in the oil acting like sand paper.
so.... use oil according to your climate and get the GOOD FILTERS !!! and use owner's manual spec oil ONLY!!! All metal are made differently with different impurities, that's why manufactures spec different oils for different cars.
