I've found a possibly good 1.9TD head to put on my 1.6TD project. The 1.6 block is from a hydro engine so there are no headgasket issues (go the metal one for a 1.9TD, three notches).
I was wondering about injectors. IIRC, 1.9 injectors are taller and dual stage while 1.6 are shorter and single stage. I have a set of rebuilt 1.6 injectors with GTD nozzles. Is there any issues using those with the 1.9 head? My guess is it's ok to use them but if not, I'll get the 1.9 injectors with the head.
Also, I got a complete gasket set from german auto parts for a 1.6TD head, will it fit the 1.9 head? Obviously the VC gasket is different but I'm wondering about valve stem seals and all the rest. Anyone know?
Last but not least, anyone know of a source for HD valve springs for 1.9TD's? IIRC you could use 1.8 8v HD springs on a 1.6, not sure about the 1.9.
Thanks guys.
valve springs? it's a hydro head
Valve springs are all gonna fit, the stock diesel ones and the gasser hd ones are the same. You need to find out if your 1.9td head is equipped with with 7mm (late model) or 8mm (early models up to around 95) valves. The 1.6 injectors fit fine in the 1.9 head, they are just shorter, just use 1.6 injector lines and you are set. I carry full seal kits for both types of 1.9 heads. And if you do have 8mm valves and would like to switch all you have to do is get all new valves, guides and seals, lifters, this alone is good for about 8-10% increase in flow. All the 8mm 1.9 heads I rebuild get converted to 7mm.

Sweet thanks a lot! 8-10% increase in flow is very good, combine that with P&P and you get plenty more airflow.
PM me with your price on both types of head, I'll buy one if I get the head. Can the numbers casted on the head tell which type it is?

Hydro heads have springs too. That's how the valves stay closed.

and they just use hydraulic pressure to open them.
Actually, they use a camshaft to open them. They use hydraulic pressure to take up the lifter-camshaft clearance, instead of shims.

forgot about the lifters in there!
A complete gasket set includes valve guide seals, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, valve cover gasket, the rubber seals for the 3 bolt holes in the top of the valve cover, injector heat shields, cam seal, and the 2 o-rings for the coolant flanges on the side of the head comes ot a grand total of $65CAD

If you want prices for 7mm valves, guides, lifters etc, I should be able to get those prices up on the website this weekend.
Great thanks a lot. I'll contact you if I need the kit
