Yep, same type. I can't recall the size off hand though.
Well I grabbed the engine today. Turns out my "aaz" is just a 1.6td that was swapped into the 97 jetta before the previous owner purchased it. Good news is I was able to hear it run and it started right away and comes with a k14 with no noticeable shaft play. With the tranny, radiator and a/c pump I grabbed I should hopefully be able to make back a good amount of the $500 I paid. took about 2 hours to get it ready to pull then wasted an hour playing with his broken engine hoist.
Good to hear you got it out. I'm sure you already figured this out but the axle bolts are M8.
I just cut the axles. I didnt have a socket big enough to get the spindle nuts off and I didnt even bother taking the wheels off. Cutting both axles took maybe 5 min with my cordless angle grinder.
The only hard part was physically getting the engine out. The hoist he borrowed was broken and only got the engine/tranny 3/4 of the way out of the bay, to get the other 1/4 i pried up on the tranny using an 8' long 4x4 while he pulled the hoist forward. Was tricky and time consuming but we got it out without any damage in the end!
Now its time to get it all nice and clean and prep it for the install.
Should I use the K24 or the T3 I have? Whats the safe amount of boost I can run with each with and without an intercooler? I also have an AAZ giles pump, is that worth swapping onto the 1.6 or should I just use the stock pump?
Is there such thing as too big of an intercooler? I bought a used FMIC from a lancer evo 10 but I'm starting to think it might be too big. The core is 11.5"x19" with 2" in/out. Would I have any problems with boost lag running that or would I be fine?
Exhaust is going to be 2" just past the turbo then expanding to 2.5" out the back with a dynomax super turbo high flow muffler and a vibrant ultra quiet resonator if it makes any difference on turbo or pump selections...
