92 mk2 1.6 na power steering
My water pump is leaking and was wondering if there is a walk through online on how to replace it. I tried google but didn't come up with a great walk through
Anywhere in canada to order parts?
Thanks
The water pump is common to just about every pre 99 8V 4 cylinder VW so your closest decent parts store will have it.
The pump is definitely a pain. The book method is to pull the timing belt and do it from the timing belt side. You also can remove the alternator and power steering pump and pull the entire housing. If it hasn't been done for a long time and you live somewhere rusty I'd pull the entire housing.
Is there a replacement brand that's better? Should I get bosche?
Geba and Hepu are good brands. I wouldn't hesitate to use a Bosch. Never heard of Thermex personally.
I remember on my MK1 the upper 2 bolts for the waterpump housing were hard to get to because of the injection pump. Had to cut an end wrench in half to get in there, maybe a curved wrench works for that. Next time I did it was with the IP off.
The o-ring seal for the waterpump is the same size as for the thermostat; they may look different, because the thermostat seal gets changed more often and is not smashed flat like the waterpump seal will be.
