  but, they don't go down into
  seat of the valve........

  I was hoping to hear that....
  I have seen stuff like this on
  my 1.8l subie heads.... second generation heads or better....
  Yeah, gasket was ragged..... so... new gasket
  and we will be in with flynn.....

• Completely 100% normal. The standard test is "crack the thickness of a dime" - as long as it's less than that you are good to go.

• What bothers me now is the more common hairline cracks in the pre-combustion chamber inserts.  Got any of those?
