Hi,
Yeah, getting around to pulling the head.....
I got the intake off and the exhaust....
worked out good with one of those long
6mm ball hexes on 1/4 drive to get the intake off//
So the head bolts... I would like to use
one of those "splined socket" aka "triple square bit"
12 point..... (going by) any other names....that it goes by.....
A t55 torx fits... it.... I guess I could see what socket
the torx fits into......
I figured I would ask the forum....
what size is the splined socket?

Monst
It is definitely NOT a Torx. Wrong shape points!
Use something to get the sludge and oil out of the female of the triple square headbolt, and tap gently with a hammer the male triple into the headbolt till it seats. Baby buds, or Q-tips work. You will regret it if the bolt strips.
Dig it on the stripping part...
I got the square ditty today
at the friendly import parts
place I deal with... Was
great they had one there....
Q-tip ,,, good idea.....
I got the head off tonight....
I just need some people to talk me into
new injectors........... and glow plugs
I mean she really ran quite well for her
age... 262k... and got 42 mpg all day long
though her butt was black caused she didn't
wipe...........
It is a toss up......
I believe I had on head bolt that was loose
perhaps..... one head bolt didn't come loose
like the other nine... the nine popped when
I loosened them.... where as this one did not...
though it could be that it was just very lubed...
where as the others some where dry......
I didn't notice ,,, can anyone tell me about
the tapings into the block..... are all the tapings
like... isolated... like not going into cooling or oil???
IE:(not going through water jacket etc)
The motor was dribbling pressure and oil into
the cooling system..........
Monst
There is one bolt that goes through an oil passage, so yes one of the 10 will definitely feel different than the others.
If the injectors have 262K on them then then they are definitely due for a refresh. I highly recommend Giles at Performance Diesel in Ontario, he did a whiz-bang job on mine. Unlike the parts stores he actually calibrates and tests them before he sends them to you. My engine ran noticeably better after getting a set of properly balanced injectors installed
What was the turn around time on
the injectors?
You send your's to him and you get the same ones back?
and approximate on cost $$$
He sent me a new set and I sent back my old ones, though he can definitely do yours if you want. So turnaround was basically nil - I said I wanted a set, he made them up the next day and sent them on.
I really can't recall the price - was about 18 months ago.
