Upper cover? No, they are different due to the additional timing belt roller that the AHU sports between the pump and cam.

With the extra piece would it work if you had the same backing piece?

The AHU cover and backing plate will work on an AAZ, but not the other way around. The AAZ cover will interfere with the roller on a AHU.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a non-cracked upper timing cover with the retaining bolt? for my AAZ.

That sounds reasonable. Thanks. I didn't expect to be able to go to a dealer for parts for this engine. Am I wrong?

What vehicle do I use to search for my engine?

This place only lets me search by vehicle year and make and doesn't give me the option to select an engine type - it auto fills results for a gas engine. It must work. LibbyD was able to search the timing cover.

I just noticed these guys are about 45 minutes from me. I'll call them Monday. Is 1stvw where I should get my parts then?

1stvwparts is a dealership backdoor site. The part # for the cover is 028109127J. You're going to want to acquire a copy of ETKA or use Vag-cat or similar for part#s.

Excellent. Thanks. Any suggestions on where I might use/share/obtain a free copy ETKA or Vag-cat?
I found this, but I don't read Russian.
