Will the valve springs retaners and seats from the aaz work in a 1.6 hydro head?
I'll weigh in - the springs are physical interchangeable, although there were different spring setups on different model years. (some single, some double)
The retainers and keepers will only interchange if the valve stem diameters are the same. There are 7mm and 8mm AAZ valves that were used from the factory.
I'm running a 1.5L bottom end, AAZ head with 7mm valvestems, double springs, and matched retainers and keepers (all provided by TechTonics Tuning).
Steve.
Ok forgot to mention I'm rebuilding the 1.6 head with 7mm valves from techtonics also.
So as long as the aaz head had 7mm valve I should be good to you the aaz springs in the 1.6? If I'm understanding this correctly?
After dealing with Techtonics, it is my understanding that all 8V valvesprings are functionally interchangeable. Whether they are the "right" valvesprings for your application is a different question, but they will fit and function.
I don't know all the history of the AAZ heads, but there were several variations/combinations of 8mm stems, 7mm stems, single valvesprings, and double valvesprings.
My advice would be to tell Techtonics about your engine, and let them recommend the springs.
Steve
so you got tdi valves? gasser different... so 7mm diesel would be tdi...
i used 16v springs, retainers, keepers, bottom cups on my tdi as it had single springs... single springs lack the bottom seat and are longer for the lack of seat too... no mixxy match...
i had spare 16v spring stuff from something that got autotech springs in the past...
hydro = hydro.. so s long as duel spring se tup no reall issue i know of... just make sure to turn it all by hand before you install it.. to mak esure nothing binds/locks up... i had oil pressue on mine when i did to make sure the pumped up lifters were no issue.. aka drill and socket on oil pump... was on stand still... no belt pullies as i was making sure none of my new seals leaked and all too.. i had th epistons mid storke to clear the valves...
The valves I'm using are as follows:
36mm intake (7mm stem) part #028 109 601 C
31mm exhaust (7mm stem) part# 028 109 611 C
These are AAZ valves - I may not be 100% correct, but I'm pretty sure the TDI valves are longer than the AAZ valves.
The springs I'm using are techtonics #109 084 TD
Keepers are #109 290
Hydro lifters are #109 089 D
Everything was purchased as a matched set, and the machine shop (AMT Racing Engines) checked all the seat pressures and assembled the head.
Steve.
Tdi valves are a smidgen longer for some reason
