• I've been looking at a 1983 TD from a Jetta. Apparently it does not have a KKK turbo on it, and the owner stated that the turbo it does have historically had wastegate issues. Apparently there is a "tin can" that is part of the actuating mechanism and these rust out. I was just wondering if there is some sort of aftermarket waste gate and controller that could be put on this engine that would do away with this issue.

• Check it out carefully, the Waste Gate on a Garrett Turbo is a good one and seldom fails.

  I have a 1983 Jetta engine with the same issue with the tin can around the waste gate. The engine is out right now and I would like to find out if this is something that can be fixed and how.
  Any suggestions appreciated.
