Yea the machine shop convinced me the stick out on the pre cups was unnecessary. My second rebuild i bought a brand new head assembled as my last on was unsalvageable. And the tranny I am using is and R151 from a 4cyl turbo model it is the big one and I've heard people running over 400hp in supras through them.
R150/R151 are AMAZING trannies.. i dont like the 151 tho, because of the short first gear..
Yea I am curious to see how it works out I had to remove most of the floor to fit the trans. I have 3.90 gears in the diffs on 32s so I'm curious to see how the gearing works out. my stock Suzuki trans lugged pretty hard in first but I couldn't get it going very fast on the highway, it was screaming when I got into 100km.
Several years ago I bought a what I thought was a rebuilt head for one of my NA 1.6 diesel engines, and was surprised to receive a brand new head. It was not quite as well made as the VW unit, but appeared good enough, and as usual was made of aluminum. As I recollect, it was made some place in Brazil.
A quick search on the Internet turns up many companies in China selling new copies of VW cylinder heads. It appears that all these are of aluminum.
All of these companies have the tooling to make VW cylinder heads. I thoroughly expect that at least one of these companies would be willing make a batch of cast iron heads. Anyone want to front the money and put together a group order?

While we are discussing custom built cylinder heads --- there is no particular reason why we could not redesign the head to be direct injection, and continue to fit a stock 1.6 long block and fit most of the original equipment internal and external parts. One of these factories with the tooling would probably be willing to build a batch of these redesigned heads. :-)
Tdi head Will already bolt on. I'm not fronting money to china that's for sure

A 1.9 TDI head will fit on a 1.6 TD block? Cool! :-) I did not know that. Will it fit on both mech. and hyd. 1.6 blocks? So far, my mechanicing experience has been only with '82 to '85 1.6 NA and TD diesels (non-hyd.).
Has anyone put a TDI head on a 1.6, and created a running engine? If so, were they pleased with the result, and is there a write-up of the build? What was their solution for the proximity of the injector and the piston?

there are no pistons available to make the engine run..
if someone has created one, then it had some ultra-expensive custom pistons..
we have heard of no successful attempts at converting a 1.6IDI into a DI engine.
Not only that but the 1.9L Mtdi option would outway any 1.6 tdi option if you did have pistons. I kicked it around a ton. Flame travel in DI engines isn't as good as IDI in the upper RPM. That equals no benefit to essentially de-stroking a current 1.9TDI.
To further expand, the 1.9 tdi head that would bolt on is a 1z or AHU...the other later engines will not bolt on easily. Also you could put it on a mech block but it would take some work plugging some holes.
I would love to have a cast iron IDI head...but I think from here on out I am going TDI...precup failure is an expensive little wench that I really never want to mess with again.
