Early 1.5 vs 1.6 oil/vac pump questions
I was wondering if I could swap out the early style oil pump in my 1.5 engine, for an 83 1.6 version and matching vacuum pump.
Getting ready to drop a very low km 79 1.5 in place of a tired 81 1.6, and the 1.5 had its vac pump parted out before I got it.
I was thinking I could use a 1.6 vac pump that I have, but the 1.5 oil pump is different ( vac pump has to have the near flush drive slot, and the curled external line for oiling)
I have a mid eighties 1.6 parts motor, and if the 1.6 oil pump checks out to bently specs can I plug the curled line port on the 1.5, and run the "newer" stuff, or at least can I order a new 1.6 oil pump and rebuild the corresponding vac pump in the 1.5 block?
Thanks for your time
i would use the 1.6 vac pump, oil pump, and oil filter flange..
the 1.5, like you mentioned, uses a coiled oil supply tube for the vac pump.. you would have to cap off that outlet, and its easier to just use the filter flange with it already blocked off..
you HAVE TO keep these pumps in matched sets, in terms of shaft lengths..
you already figured out that the oil pump shaft is SHORT on the 1.5... the 1.6 pump shaft is considerably longer..
you cant mix n match that stuff like everything else on these engines..
That is great news thanks very much
I hope to get things swapped around tomorrow, we'll see how that goes
