Always good to have more options.
This is exactly what I was thinking.
Hey guys just out of curiosity.. way use this pug pump? Is it known for being leaps and bounds greater than that of Volkswagen ??
I don't know a single thing about them.
But was wondering if they would mount fairly easily - they'd be another candidate for M-TDI pump like the Rover Pump thats been mentioned in your M-TDI thread.
Probably not the case - as far as simplicity.
But the pump heads being 10mm - could make them good candidates for swapping onto 1.6 TD pumps. Probably a little easier and cheaper to find those - versus making an AHU Pump useless after pulling the head from it to swap onto TD Pump.
Always good to have more options.
i talked it over with tyler, and we decided that it will be very easy to re-drill the VW pump bracket to mount the 2 bolt PUG pump to it..
its either that, or re-case the pump.. and im not interested in doing that.

You'd probably be about the same amount of work to do it either way. Not bad.
Yep
that assembly needs to come out first.
A blind question -
does it look like one of the Pug pumps will bolt/mount directly ?
Bolt onto a VW? No way. The Pug or the Renault pump that I am playing with has a gear drive on a straight shaft with a key, not a taper shaft like the VW.
I was wrong. I pulled the gear drive off the pump with a puller and a hammer and it has a tapered shaft, just like the VW pump.

i know, mine currently has a VW pulley bolted on..
I dug up the other Peugeot pumps I have in my collection and here are the Bosch #'s
0 460 404 159
0 460 404 012
0 460 404 033
The pump that I am disecting is 0 460 494 159 which R.O.R. says is not a Peugeot pump, but it has the same gear drive and 2 hole mount pattern as the 3 pumps listed above, which I know for a fact are Peugeot pumps. So I am pretty sure 0 460 494 159 is a Peugeot pump since it was given to me by a Peugeot mechanic. The 3 pumps listed above I personally removed.
Here's a pic of all the Peugeot pumps I have with a VW pump 0 460 494 161 on the far right. I bought this VW pump from a shop to play with and not sure what model/ year VW it came from.
i ran the numbers on your mystery pump, and it came back that it was a renault 2.5TD/Jeep 2.5TD pump..
the ones with the long inlet pipe, and red emergency shut off handles, those are DEFINITELY pug pumps..
and Peugeot is NOT the only engine ive seen that particular injection pump drive setup on.. i wouldnt base the engine origin simply on the drive snout on the pump..
Where did you run the numbers? Did you run the 3 new numbers I posted?

i dont remember what site i found the info..
and no, i didnt run the new numbers, but i can tell, just by looking at them, that they ARE INDEED pug pumps..
the long inlet and outlet pipes, and red emergency shut offs are dead give aways..
and it appears that your middle pump has an electronic timing advance or retard on it..
Well I am sure happy I found this thread! I was hoping to find info on this pump here as I found a 505 diesel today at the junkyard. I knew right away that I HAD to pull the pump and take it home with me, but there was a little voice in the back of my head telling me to look in the trunk for more spare parts. I found a complete second pump! Now If I can find my old spare N/A VW pump I can start trying to build myself a good turbo pump.
Nice find! I have not done anything with mine since my Eco pump is running well with the gov mod. One thing I know is that the Peugeot pump's governor shaft is a different length than the Eco pump.
