I want to change my 30mm oil pump out for a 36mm pump just for a little extra pressure, I'm running a franken 1.6/1.9 combo at 25psi. Do i just order a pump for an aaz?
I got a pump for a 92 1.6 but they gave me a 30mm one did they just give me the wrong part? I read here that anything after 86 should have the 36mm pump.

I bought a new oil pump. For AAZand it was a new Meyle pump. It was only 30mm gears, took it back. This was about 2 weeks ago.

30mm pumps are NOT correct for hydro/turbo engines.. FWIW

Yea, oil pumps are specifically sized to each engines specific flow requirements/leakoff. Ever notice how ALL VAG engines oil pressure acts the same? All the 4 cylinder VW's, 5 cylinder audi's, even v8 audi, turbo or not, start at over 5bar on the gauge and drop to just over 1bar on hot idle. The only one that has acted differently than this was the WE 5 cylinder solid lifter non turbo in my early build 84 coupe GT, it would run at 2bar hot idle-less leakoff in that one with the same oil pump as the hydro turbo 5.
This includes..
Audi 3.6l PT v8
Audi 2.2l MC turbo hydro i5
Audi 2.2l KH hydro i5
VW 1.8l hydro i4
Audi 2.3l 7A 20v hydro i5
VW 1.6l ME solid diesel
Audi 2.1l WE solid i5
Audi 2.0l 3A hydro i4
In short, I would make sure I have the right oil pump and make sure ALL the bearings are good.

http://www.partsplaceinc.com/ has them, I bought one from them. Call them.
I don't think it was OEM, it was made in Brazil but it seems to be working good.
The larger oil pump is the right oil pump. The early TD engines had low oil pressure after a while, even with the bearings still in decent shape. This is a known issue.
The anemic 26 mm pumps used in some of the early TD blocks, or even the 30 mm pumps just don't cut the mustard when you run a hydraulic head, turbo, oil squirters etc...
You might say "whatever VW used was good enough" but remember, running these engines at 25 psi or for 350,000 miles was
never part of their business model.

Yes I still have it. PM me if you want it. I will check the lash to make sure it's still good if you do. It was in good condition when I took it out.

I took a 16V oil pump which has 36mm gears and pressed off the shaft for drive on the Int. shaft gear and pressed on the shaft for the Vacuum pump delete. Does that make sense?
Works perfect.

Any ABA gasser oil pump is 36mm!
But they spin the wrong way.
At least I thought that was the difference between the gas and diesel pumps because of how the timing belt is routed.

Yes but the gear on the shaft is the same for all oil pumps.

Yes but the gear on the shaft is the same for all oil pumps.
diesel gear is cut backwards from a gasser gear..
the diesel IM shaft tries lifting the gear off the shaft, because its driven from the BACK of the belt..
the gasser IM shaft forces the gear down towards the block and the bronze bushing, because its driven off the FRONT side of the belt..
so, if the IM shafts spin different directions, then the gears must be cut different directions..

If the gears inside the pump were slanted that might be true.
But they are straight cut.
