The way sooty is right now with the short tires I rev like 4000 at about 60 mph.
I did a 250 mile trip, that does get a little old. The loud muffler doesn't help either.
Here's my buddy drivin it, lol he's doin maybe 75 or so, he said he was revvin 42-4400 steady.

Damn, 4300?
That is intense. They're built for it, clearly. Still cool though.

R/t doesn't matter As far as how fast a car is,you can sit there for an hour then launch.
I'll have to grab the book on it again and see because iirc it had a full drag mode and has a tree.
Yea the gov mod is on the list of 1000 things to do. I'm not nervous about doing it now it's been figured out.
It's definitely a performance advantage to run a close ratio on an na I believe if you can tolerate the revs.
Ive always liked WIDE ratio trannies on all my cars..
or a close ratio w/ 3.67 final drive..
my GTI w/ AUG, and VNT15 TD engine was quick as hell, but turned 3 grand going 60mph..
Boy, she was REALLY SINGIN at 75mph…
GOV MOD IS A MUST-DO mod on ANY VW DIESEL...

Yea if ya have a turbo a wide ratio is fine, if it's na, it'll be a pig.
Of course the hiway sucks with a close ratio, but I pick up about 8 mph with normal size tires at the same cruise rpm. Only thing I could think that would be killer is that add on 6 speed for an na. But then, why? Too much money for that unless ya win the lottery.

I', pretty happy with my 5 ratios, but I sure would not mind having one more gear on each end.

Hi,
in my experiency is all about the overall-powerband, which includes the gearbox and the tires. My AAZ Golf 2 MK II has actual 190 hp and still struggle to make better 1/8 or 1/4 time than in the time it has had 165 hp with a K14 turbo and instand boost.. . .
Sorry for chiming in late here and hopefully not too off-topic but, how do you make 190 HP with a K14? I am running one now and have been told it's good for about 120 max HP. You must have much larger valves and a seriously ported head. Not doubting you, I really want to know. Does your K14 have modded impellers?

I'm sure that I'm nowhere near the "Highest HP achieved", but just to put a mark on the board, my 1.5L IDI has made 167 HP, using a Dieselmeken pump, GT2056 turbo, and an AAZ cylinder head.

he was making 165 not 190hp.
eeven 165 is high for k14,atleast for a vw unit.
jetmug, you can get higher than that but is very good to have a 1.5 making good hp
