Ugh, after just a few minutes at 60MPH, my oil is getting hot. Over 95-100 degrees. If I don't back off, it keeps getting hotter.
What the heck can cause this?
I've an air/oil cooler fitted, and it's proper hot. coolant is around 90 degrees, and gets a bit hotter as the oil gets hotter??
HELP!

if those readings are in *F, then they are fairly cool..
my oil runs a little cooler than my coolant temp usually..

Yup, 100C is fine, with room to spare.
Having said that... perhaps tell us *exactly* what you are using to measure your oil temperature?

Okay, those are in Celcius (I'm in Blighty). The temp is being measured by a digital gauge from a VDO sender in the side of the cylinder head (where the pressure switch would normally be).
With cooling fan on, the coolant was at 92-94C. The oil was over 100C. Ambient temps were around 25C.
I'm running a mocal thermostat sandwich plate to a 10 row oil cooler. The Rad is from a 2.5l Diesel truck, and less than a year old. Boost at 10psi, fuel turned up slightly, nothing else really. Oh, it's in a suzuki vitara (tracker/sidekick)
New waterpump and thermostat recently.
I cracked a head last year (lost water pump belt), so I'm trying to look after this one. Forgot to say, It's an AAZ with a Garrett T2.

Just double-checking, because there are two VDO temp sensors...did yours come with the gauge?

It did, I'm confident that it's displaying the right temp - If I drive like a granny, the oil sits at a lovely 82-84C (thermostat in sandwich plate opens at 82C).
I'm actually wondering if I need a bigger oil cooler - It's lugging a lot of bulk around compared to the cars AAZs normally drag around.

Not yet, i'm at this stage:

I thought short pipe runs would be good, but then realised that they woudn't allow enough movement between the IC and the engine

I guess getting that hooked up will help?

1st off... end of head is not oil flow.. its the end of a oil passage... will never read right... put it in the oil filter housing so oil flows past it..

yes, the correct spot for the oil temp sensor is in the filter flange, like was stated, so oil can flow past it. that might be why your oil temps are up there..

OOOOoooo... didn't know that...

space is tight on the oil filter housing, I'll have to see if I can fit it on!
Do you reckon I'll see lower or higher temps?

Tidy looking install particularly the airbox integration.

i'm no expert but if your reading off the back of the head and your down pipe is like this, maybe your also getting heat soak

EDIT: also your turbo oil feed line looks to be right up next to your down pipe as well

Good point, but there is actually far more clearance there than it looks, the down pipe is 3 inches from the head - I wouldn't have thought it would have THAT much of an effect?

That's a bloody good point though... Might have to try to relocate it a bit. They don't touch, but they are close.
