I plan on using this IHI VF14 on a 1.9 AAZ. It seems a little bit bigger than the K-14.

I' still waiting on some parts for completion, on paper it looks good, but real life, who knows?
What does it look like adapting will entail?
ok, so is what im wondering, is why?
why just start working on an IDI turbo kit? after they quit making IDI engines.. they are not very popular, and even less common. there was like 5-6 diesels at pacific waterland. only 3 being turbo charged.
even if we came up with a cheap turbo kit, who would buy one? there are not many people out there thinking to themselves "damn, i need a bigger turbo for my IDI"..
cool project/discussion, but i just wanna know the why?
I dont think he is suggesting someone start manufacturing turbo kits for our idi's. I think he just wants people to post ideas and what aftermarket turbos they used on their engines and what the result was such as his friend using the turbo from the talon
IDI's are rare and not as popular. It may not be the in thing at festivals. That's part of the draw for me. Although it is too bad the power capabilities of IDI technology was not more explored as they can rev higher.
I am not a fan of the direct injection mills. Just a personal preference. I like to dump my oil change in the tank without worrying about it. I also like a long power band motor in a manual transmission car. The head bolts, weak iron blocks, and valve adjustments are drawbacks as most of us know.
The point of this thread if for those who like IDI's and would like to share there experience with adapting non VW spec turbos on a budget with possitive results. Looking for turbo specs and availability as well.
i really appreciate what you are doing with this thread...thanks.
keep missing out on turbos that are stock vw...these ideas might be the best chance i will get.
i just want enough power to get over the passes out of the Rogue valley with out getting flattened by some semi doing 40 mph
Thanks for the input Audivw guy. Are you going to be welding the cast then?
