hi just woundered if any 1 could help ..... i know i need to put some pics up but i dont know if u would know on my pump i have some spare wires not connected to anything bcoz my car use to have be a 1.6td in it and now i fitted a aaz engine out of a mk3 in it so less wires on my loom and didnt know if they where important there is a white box on the bottom of the pump with 2 wires coming from it not connected to anyfing and a round sensor with 2 wires coming out the back of the pump where the fuel lines come out to go to the injectors not conected any help would be great.it runs and has been for a month or so.
thanks in advance jim
Hi Jim,
Your pump either has full advance or no advance all the time. Those 2 wires on the bottom are the important ones. They are suppose to be hooked up to some sort of computer that sends a pulsed signal to that solenoid. Depending on the frequency it varies the timing.
The 2 wires coming out of the center of the fuel lines is a start of injection sensor and is used by the computer to determine the timing.
Yup, my thought as well.
What this means is your engine is running with only one advance setting...rather than the dynamically controlled advance it needs for efficient operation.
Unfortunately there's no work around other than to grab the entire harness and the controller module that would have come with the car... this particular pump is about half-way towards the full ECU control used in the next version of this engine... the TDI... and needs some electronic smarts to run properly.
Or, find an earlier fully mechanical AAZ pump.
thats a bit s**t

.many thanks for the responce do u know what pump i could run then istead of a early aaz pump if i cant get 1? (better pump) many thanks jim
iam guessing that the pump is set on full advance then as it seems to be poor on fuel when ur part throttle but goes like stink so is it going to do anyfing to the engine being advance all the time
