To find a rubber oil pan gasket I think I looked for a gasket from a '97 Golf,
2.0 engine.
yep, the ABA oil pan and valve cover are re-usable rubber, and fit the diesel without modification.
You have to change VC studs for the rubber VC gasket though.
On the Oil pan rubber gasket do you need to change anything or does it have reinforcements built in?

The rubber valve cover gasket could be a good thing...

What ou change the studs to? bolts?
Reinforcements on the oil pan gasket? is that to make it stiff rather than floppy?
You don't have to change anything. I have a rubber oil pan gasket on my 1.6. Works great.
yeah, you do need to do the studs.
there are studs that dont have a shoulder that work, but I just swapped to allen head bolts.
the rubber oil pan gasket is a direct swap, and it does have reinforcement in it I believe.
get studs from a 2.0l ABA gasser head if you want to convert to a rubber valve cover gasket...They dont have the shoulders like a stock diesel stud has because the gasket has metal spacers built in.
Long set screws work great,
the allen head makes them easy to install.
