in the bottom end stop the engine from cranking over? I know I've still got water in there because the dip stick shows about an inch extra oil, but I'm guessing this is just where I've not yet drained the oil since putting her in the 2foot deep flooded stream
I know I need to charge the battery up ( I know it is good because I got a brand new one 2 weeks ago and tried cranking her over a few times and without charge that's gonna drain it ) I tried jumping it off my bosses Alfa 156 last night, but it was a half hearted attempt tbh.
I've also found the awesome Laser 30cm rachet spanner with 12mm one end and 8mm the other end
so changing the GP's will be much easier now!

too much fluid as in oil? You've got water in your oil?
Starting is not what you need to do right now. Running an engine with water in the oil will severely mess stuff up. I would not recommend starting the car at all until you flush the oil out and get some fresh stuff in there..
Also too much "fluid" in the crank case wll be bad because the spinning crank will whip the oil in to a froth.. froth that does not like to lubricate

pull the drain bolt and let it drain until you get oil with no water in it, then fill it back up to full on the dipstick with fresh oil.
a little water is not an issue, it will boil out when you get the motor running and hot, but that much sitting in the bottom of the pan means that the oil pump will pick up straight oil, not a good thing.

yeah, like I said, drain until just oil is visible coming out of the oilpan, and then top off to regular level.
I just meant that it is not necessary to kill yourself trying to get every little bit of water out.

How would that much water get into your oil pan from going through a stream?
Broken dipstick tube? no dipstick to begin with? lol i dunno

I think he said it sat in the creek for a little while so water probly came in through the breather.

Will the engine not crank at all? How do you know it is not the starter, it would have gotten wet. Since you drove into a stream, I think you could have sucked water into the cylinders, bad news, it's hydrolocked- the engine won't turn because there is water in the cylinders and water can't be compressed). Pull the glow plugs, replace filter and ALL the oil (seriously...you cheapskates, oil isn't that expensive and this was dirty, muddy creek water) and try to turn its over.

It was about a week before I could do anything, and I got all the water out the cyl's so we know it's not hydrolocked, I had a bad battery so replaced it, but the thread in GP #1 (closest to timing belt) got messed up when I took it out so I've been hunting around for somewhere cheap to rethread it for the past 2 weeks, all around £500 which for a Category C write off is not worth it tbh, so I've tried screwing it in all the way.
The water in the oil pan has been there about 4 weeks now, problem is my landlord doesn't allow me to work on my car so I usually have to do things under the cover of night and can't leave any oil stains otherwise they'll know and I'll be in sh!t

the head is most definitely messed up if the GP didnt go in very good.
