I was wondering if i could see some running videos of people with their 1.6/1.9
And how advanced they have their pump set?
I just changed the rings and im thinking of timing it an entire tooth advanced to start with and then push the pump towards the head once it's started till it runs right.

a whole tooth of advance is ALOT. a tooth forward with the pump as retarded as it can get, it will still be alot more advanced than your pump on the right tooth and advanced all the way. it might be too much advance. when you get the rattle when you let off to shift, then you went to far.

I'm surprised to see this question being asked.
Is there not a consensus on how much timing the 1.6 Bottom / 1.9 Top needs to run well?
I figured enough people have done this that there must be some data here to support running timing in at least a certain range.. no?

seems like everyone has a different range. i remember a couple people building different 1.6/9 engines and they didnt have problems with advancement.

huh - mine worked
ok with about 1.15mm of advance, It wouldn't start well cold or idle well but I think that was mostly because I had a 3 notch metal HG on a motor that could have used a 1 notch.
I was trying to drop compression, but that created other issues

I would have guessed that running the same timing on a motor with the appropriate head gasket would have done much better. Also - I was running stock 1.6 TD nozzles in 1.6 injectors, I've gathered from folks that running the two stage 1.9 injectors might improve things a bit (reduce the marbly noises).

I'm at 1.19, but I have my injector break pressure set to 170 bar to overcome the possibility of secondary injection at high boost. At 1.10 I was getting high EGT and water jacket temperatures, so I bumped to 1.19, and promptly pushed the head gasket out.

I know everyone runs different amount of advance and i was wondering what each their own sounded like.
There was a thread a while back about someone trying to get rid of the deafening rattle. Would you two agree that our half breed is exceptionally noisy?
EDIT: plus saurkraut, didn't see you there

Heres a short video of gauges when boosting.
Does any one elses run boost like this? The gauge is a dual boost and vacume. Boost on the right starts at 5, 10, 15, the red is 20.
I gotta get a higher gauge.

LOLZ! i love the gauge on the left!
If boost is on the right what is on the left?
The right gauge looks like EGT and the left gauge looks like boost?

does your intake suck up little kids and small animals?

So what's that? 30 psi?
what turbo are you running?

Boost on the left and EGT on right. The far left gauge seen at end of vid. is oil temp. Turbo is K24 and pump is an uber pump from Giles.
The turbo sees that boost level for only a second, and that was only second gear.

my fueling cuts off at about 22-25psi from my T3

Which seems really reallly low to me...

I also ran that engine with a stock rebuilt TD pump and still saw way past the 15 psi on my gauge. I always get a grin when I look down and see it. Really need to get gauge that reads what I'm pushing.
I screwed the wastgate as close to closed as posable.

Hmmm. I removed my waste gate...
My boost pressures dropped a lot when i got rid of some restrictions i had on my intake and used slightly larger piping.
I'm rather disappointed with my boost numbers but i guess i'll see what happens with a big IC
