It seems to me that if you had an engine timed with a lift of 1.00 mm and running 135 bar injectors and 155 bar injectors, the 135 bar injectors would open earlier which is necessary compared to the turbo because there isn't the added heat and pressre that would necessitate a more retarded timing. Does that mean to run 155 bar injectors in a box stock NA engine, you'd have to run up the timing to 1.05mm or some other higher lift to have the same equivalent timing?
The reason for the question is that I'm wondering if it would be ok to run turbo injectors in my 1.6 NA or does it really not matter? Also, what's the deal with the 'mercedes' spec nozzles?
yes you are correct , the higher the injector pop pressure the later the injector actucally fires .
the easiest way to keep the same timing while changing the pop pressure is to use a device that clamps onto an injector line and measures the injector " pulse in the line . ( they hook up to a regular timing light ... can't remeber off hand what it is called , i got mine from snap on , but other companies make them now too ) .
anyways pop the timing cover off of the bell housing and mark on the flywheel where the timing light is flashing at ( keep in mind where the mark you just made sits in relationship to the timing mark on the bell housing ) .
now install your "new " higher pop pressure injectors .
now adjust the injection pump so the timing light flashes on the mark on the flywheel you made earlier .
if you did everything right the new injectors will be firing at the same time as the old ones ( but the timing may not be correct , just the same as what you had before )
btw don't waste your time on merc injectors , buy some vw gtd ones instead .... you will be happier later on
