• Recently I've noticed that I've  had a fair amount of oil leaking out of the dipstick. The car has 200,000 on it so I'm guessing that the rings have gotten worn enough to create enough crank case pressure to cause  some of the oil to work it's way up the dipstick. Am I correct?

• If it's coming out the top of the dipstick tube I believe that's from excessive blowby.
  
  If it's coming out the base of the tube then IIRC there's an o-ring that can go bad.

  Yep. Have you checked your breather if it coming out the top ? Takes a little pressure to blow it out the stick, but a ton of oil can spray out if your breather is restricted.

• i used to have that problem with my 1.5's
  they would just start puking oil out the dip stick hole
  and since i have the ancient block, there is no tube for the dipstick to seal to.
  just sits right on the engine block with a felt gasket. not so choice for boost applications.
  so, i took and made my own dip stick and tube.
  made it from some brake line, a chunk of brazing rod, and an air line fitting.
  works awesome and now my engine doesnt puke oil.

  best to check this out... if theres enough restriction then the engine isn't breathing right, and you get reduced performance etc.  i've seen a guy use 3/8's cooling hose tie strapped to the dipstick to create almost a 'gasket' seal.  it worked extremely well and was very cheap

• "breather" are you guys referring to a crank case vent My engine doesn't have one. Where one would go is a diamond shaped block of plate.

• no. not on the engine block.
  the breather is on the valve cover.
  your engine has one, every engine has one, unless they are a full out racing engine.

  Yeah, all internal combustion engines have a breather because all pistions / rotors allow some gases to get by their seals / rings.

• all right I will check that when I get home. I'm guessing your referring to the black hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold.

• Your breather is built into your valve cover since you have a NA. It's where that block hose you are refering to connects to the valve cover.
  Also check to make sure that you don't have a vacuum leak between the vacuum pump and the brake booster, or anywhere else. That will force too much air into the engine which causes oil puking problems.

  Reallllllllly??? This would explain why running my engine on the stand with the vacuum tube open, it pukes out the dipstickhole

• looks like o' ring on the dipstick has disappeared. I'll have to replace it soon so I can stop leaving oil drips every where.

  While you're in there check the gasket on your oil filter mount. Mine was puking out oil all over that part of the block, you couldn't really tell where it was coming from... easiest oil leak fix ever.
